\"\"<\/a>It will be a week of fascinating activities for the 2025 Summer Reading Program which will take place at the Tilden Public Library\u00a0 Monday June 9 – Friday June 13 from 10:30 – 11:30 am. This year, the summer reading program is open to children pre-K to\u00a0 6th grade.\u00a0 We ask that a parent, guardian, sitter or day care provider accompany children 6 years and under.<\/p>\n

Below are registration forms, description of activities, and photo-media release forms.\u00a0 We ask that you please complete and submit both forms by Saturday May 31, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0to ensure there are enough supplies on hand.\u00a0 You can bring in or mail your completed forms to the Tilden Public Library:

Summer reading programs began in the 1890s as a way to encourage school children, particularly those in urban areas and not needed for farm work, to read during their summer vacation, use the library and develop the habit of reading. Some libraries also now offer summer reading programs for adults, as well as children.<\/p>\n

The themes for summer reading programs held at many public libraries nationwide may be set by the individual library or by the state library.\u00a0 Many individual or state libraries use the themes set by either the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP),<\/a> a grassroots consortium of states working together to provide summer reading program materials for children, or the Illinois Reading Enrichment and Development (iREAD<\/a>) program, a coordinated, self-supporting effort to develop and provide resources and products to enable local library staff to promote reading, not just in Illinois, but also in a number of other states and over a dozen countries.<\/p>\n
